Accessibility Statement

About this statement

This statement explains how accessible my website is, what I have done to make it work well for as many people as possible, where I know it still falls short, and how to get in touch if you experience any barrier while using it.

Accessibility and inclusion are the heart of my professional work. I want this website to reflect that, and I take responsibility for making it usable, welcoming and honest.

My commitment

I aim for this website to meet WCAG 2.2 AA — the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines at the AA conformance level. This is the standard commonly used across UK public services and is the level I recommend to the organisations I work with. I have designed, built and tested this site with that standard in mind.

I do not claim the site is perfect. Some of the accessibility barriers I know about are described below, together with the reasons for them and what I am doing to work around them.

What I have done to make this site accessible

I have worked through the site page by page to make sure that:

  • The written content is structured with clear headings that reflect the meaning of each section, not just the visual style
  • Every meaningful image has descriptive alternative text
  • Decorative images are marked as decorative so screen readers can skip them
  • Every link tells you where it leads without relying on "click here"
  • Every form field has a visible label associated with it
  • The contact form uses a straightforward structure that works well with keyboard and screen reader
  • Colour contrast meets or exceeds WCAG AA thresholds
  • The site works when text is enlarged to 200% and reflows without horizontal scrolling at 400% zoom
  • The site can be navigated entirely by keyboard
  • A "Skip to Content" link is available at the top of every page
  • The site is set to British English, so screen readers pronounce words correctly
  • Interactive controls (buttons, form fields, links) are labelled clearly for screen reader users
  • Background videos and animations can be paused using an on-screen control
  • The cookie banner offers a straightforward Accept or Decline choice, and non-essential cookies are only set with your consent
  • The booking system (Cal.com) has been tested with a screen reader and a full booking journey can be completed successfully

I have tested the site using the WAVE and axe accessibility scanners, Lighthouse in Chrome, keyboard-only navigation, and the VoiceOver screen reader on macOS. I have also tested the site at 200% and 400% zoom to check that content reflows correctly.

How to change your cookie choices

The cookie banner appears the first time you visit and asks whether you accept analytics cookies. Your choice is remembered for future visits, which means the banner does not appear again unless you clear your cookies.

If you would like to change your choice at any time, clear the cookies for this site in your browser settings. The banner will reappear on your next visit and you can make a new choice. You can also adjust your browser settings to block or delete cookies whenever you want to.

If you would like help managing your data or privacy choices, please email hello@jenniventura.co.uk.

Known limitations

Some parts of the site are less accessible than I would like. These are limitations of the platforms I use rather than of my content, and I have documented them here so you know what to expect.

The "Skip to Content" link may not move focus reliably for all screen reader users. The link is present and works visually, but on some browser and template combinations focus does not always move to the main content when the link is activated. If you rely on this link and find it isn't working, please email me and I will send you the content of the page in an alternative format.

When declining cookies using a screen reader, the confirmation may not be clearly announced. The banner will disappear and non-essential cookies will not be set. If you're unsure whether your choice was recorded, close and reopen your browser — the banner will reappear only if your choice wasn't saved.

Multiple navigation regions appear in the page header. The website platform inserts separate navigation regions for desktop and mobile views. When browsing by landmark, these appear as three regions without distinct labels. Only one is visible on screen at any time, and all lead to the same destinations.

The booking system (Cal.com) has a small number of screen reader quirks. Duration abbreviations are sometimes read incorrectly (for example, "60m" may be announced as "60 metres" and "1h" as "one age"). The full duration is spelled out in each event description as a workaround. The date picker also reads through the calendar quite verbosely — you can use the Rotor's Form Controls category to skip past this and go straight to the available time slots.

The contact form contains hidden anti-spam elements that some accessibility scanners flag. These elements are not visible, are not part of the keyboard navigation order, and do not affect your ability to submit the form. They exist to protect against automated spam submissions.

I keep this list under review, and I raise these issues with the platforms concerned wherever I can.

Alternative ways to access content and services

If any part of this website is not working for you, please contact me. I will do my best to provide the content or service you need in an alternative format that works for you.

Alternatives I can offer include:

  • Sending you the content of any page as plain text, a Word document or a PDF by email
  • Arranging a booking or consultation directly by email or phone, without going through the online booking system
  • Reading content aloud on a video call if that would be helpful
  • Discussing your access needs in advance of any consultancy, training or event, so we can make arrangements together

Please email hello@jenniventura.co.uk with any request. I aim to respond within two working days.

A note on booking confirmations: I confirm each booking personally, usually within 24 hours. You will receive an email once your appointment is approved. If you don't hear from me, please email hello@jenniventura.co.uk and I will sort your appointment directly.

Planned improvements

I am actively working to improve the accessibility of this website. In the next few months I plan to:

  • Add audio recordings of the main narrative content on each page, read by me, so you can listen to the site as an alternative to reading it. These will be embedded directly on each page using a standard audio player.
  • Provide downloadable audio versions of the same content, so you can save them and listen offline or on a device of your choice.
  • Report the booking system duration-abbreviation issue upstream to Cal.com, so it can be improved for everyone.
  • Review and update this statement whenever I make significant changes to the site.

How to report an accessibility problem

If you find anything on the site that isn't working, or you have a suggestion for how I could make it better, I would be genuinely grateful to hear from you.
